Ten Things...

...I Have Asked Myself While Watching the Olympics

10. Will making jokes about curling ever get old?

9. Who invited Jeff Bridges to be in the "We Are The World" remake?

8. Is there really a difference between pairs figure skating and ice dancing?

7. Are the speed skaters' suits actually just painted on?

6. Is there a mogul skier who hasn't had major knee surgery?

5. Why do simple, every day tasks like using your Visa card seem more meaningful when Morgan Freeman is narrating?

4. Does Bob Costas age?

3. Aren't the snowboard events really just an excuse for Team USA to win more medals?

2. Is it less heterosexual to be a male figure skater, or to be a male who watches figure skating?

1. If I eat my McNuggets and drink my Coca-Cola, can I become an Olympian too?

You should've done a comparison photo of young Bob Costas and old Bob Costas. I doubt he looks any different. Jeff Bridges, on the other hand, seems to age rather quickly.

There actually is a difference between pairs skating and ice dancing... ranging from techincal difficulty, how many jumps etc are allowed, costuming, it goes on and on. And good point about jeff bridges, maybe he felt that he needed to be relevant since he just won awards for a country music movie???

Per Wikipedia, there are more rules in ice dancing, with severe penalties for breaking them:

Ice dance differs from pair skating by having different requirements for lifts, requiring spins to be performed as a team in a dance hold, and by disallowing throws and jumps. Typically, partners are not supposed to separate by more than two arm lengths; originally, partners were supposed to be in a dance hold the entire program. This restriction has been lifted somewhat in modern ice dancing.

Another distinction between ice dance and other disciplines of skating is the usage of music in the performances; in ice dancing, dancers must always skate to music that has a definite beat or rhythm. Singles and pair skaters more often skate to the melody and phrasing of their music, rather than its beat; this is severely penalized in ice dance.

Well, the pairs figure skating vs. ice dancing question has been thoroughly answered. Anyone want to take a shot at the other nine questions?

Regarding Bob Costas, I think he is destined to become the next Dick Clark. I'll be there to tell you "I told you so" when he shows up to host the 2026 Winter Olympics unable to talk out one side of his face.

I don't know if you should bash curling. You and I and maybe Marc and Fonz could create or own team. It seems like the only event you or me have any potential of getting an olympic medal in. Unless you and Kristen are working on your ice dancing.
